Hogarth Hostas at the 2019 Flower Shows
RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019
Another year at RHS Chelsea Flower Show has come and gone for Jonathan Hogarth and his collection of miniature hostas. We are ecstatic to announce that Jonathan received a silver-gilt award for his continued dedication to small and miniature hostas and his creative design. Jonathan has put in so much work this year to tell the story of a young boy helping his grandparents in the garden…however, the small boy seems to be a taxi service for those pesky slugs and snails! (It is the number one question Jonathan gets asked at flower shows; ‘how do you keep the pests away?’)
We would also like to give special mention to Jonathan and his newest hosta, ‘Ruffled Pole Mouse’ . This particular miniature hosta was short-listed for Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year 2019; it ranked in the top twenty which we are especially proud of given the amount of entries Jonathan was competing against and the fact hostas are not renowned for large, colourful flowers, like many of the competitor plants.
What an amazing accolade for Jonathan to add to his collection! Please have a look through some of the pictures below, all courtesy of Beth Otway of Pumpkin Beth, and have a look at Beth’s 2019 feature on Hogarth Hostas at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 here.
RHS Chatsworth Flower Show 2019
Jonathan returned for a second year at RHS Chatsworth Flower Show. We are very pleased to announce we were awarded our second silver-gilt award of 2019! This is also Hogarth Hostas’ second silver-gilt award from the Chatsworth show.
The story behind the stand was the same as RHS Chelsea flower show and visitors were able to see Jonathan’s antique wheelbarrows and snail figurines.
RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2019
We finished the 2019 RHS shows with an incredible week at Hampton Court Palace. Hogarth-Hostas came away with a gold award and a special accolade for Best In Section in the plant heritage category. We are so proud of Jonathan and his work this year and we’re certain he is looking forward to a well-deserved break over the summer months!
John Carr, pictured with Jonathan claiming his Best in Section award, was the man who adapted the aeroponic method to grow hosta plants from cuttings. This is a technique used by Jonathan for many years to grow his superb collection of small and miniature hostas!
This was a superb ending to the 2019 flower show season and we are so happy for Jonathan and his hostas! We look forward to seeing you all again at the 2021 RHS Flower Shows - Hogarth-Hostas.
Here’s To An Equally Successful RHS Season In 2021!
